Japanese Maple Leaves

acer-japanese-maple-leavesHi there, how are you?

Whilst walking along I spotted an Acer tree. Now somewhere in my head I knew they were called Japanese Maple trees but it wasn’t until I saw the seed pods I connected them with the common maple trees with the green leaves.

I snapped a picture on my i-pod and when I was home decided to draw them.

Usually when I draw leaves I’ll just pick one from the branch but I thought I would challenge myself and try to draw the whole branch. It was a little daunting but I think it worked. The trick was to find the top leaf and work out from there where everything belonged.

The colours are never perfect, it is still something I struggle with. They were a strange reddish purple which isn’t a colour I have in my box. It was almost but not quite right.I think I need to do some more colour swatches to work out how they all work together.

Thanks for stopping by. Till next time, have fun x
